Dear Parents/Guardians,

This year continues to fly by, and it is hard to believe that it is almost time for Spring Break! The students have been working hard preparing for our Camp-Learn-A-Lot Dr. Seuss Night. We look forward to seeing everyone on Monday, March 3rd from 5:30pm-7:00pm. Please see additional information below.

We are so proud of our students as they participated in two service projects in the month of February. They made Valentine’s Day cards for residents of local nursing homes and collected pet food and treats for Longview Care and Animal Adoption Center. They have really made a meaningful contribution to our community.

Now, that the weather is warming up, we will be conducting additional safety drills over the next few months. We will keep you informed about the drills, through ParentSquare, if your child comes home and wants to talk to you about that day’s practice.

Have a fun and enjoyable Spring Break with your child/children!

Sincerely,

Lisa Killebrew
Principal

Storybook Characters

In preparation for our Dr. Seuss night and to promote reading and math fun, during the school day on Thursday, March 5th, students are invited to join in the fun by dressing up as their favorite storybook character. Students may come dressed up to our Dr. Seuss night, too!

Dr. Seuss Night

Thursday, March 5th from 5:30pm-7:00pm

Come and spend the evening with your GECC teachers and visit various stations to play academic games and to learn fun ways you can engage your child in learning at home. Be sure to take a moment to look around the building. Our students have worked very hard to complete Dr. Seuss projects that are displayed outside the classrooms. Also, there are Tootles posted on the walls near the cafeteria and don’t forget to check out our Wall of Heroes featuring our Students of the Month. Once you are finished, be sure to stop in the cafeteria for free nachos and lemonade. Afterwards, visit the bake sale table for a sweet treat! At this time, the bake sale will only be accepting cash.

We are very excited about the evening that we have planned for you and look forward to seeing at our Dr. Seuss Night!

Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated items for our friends at the Longview Care and Adoption Center. We collected an incredible 169 items, and had a donation of $100.

Our students had a great time celebrating our successful drive with LACAC'S mascot, Rupert. Everyone got to enjoy an extra recess time, and Mrs. Jackson's class were thrilled to win a pupsicle party.

Attendance Matters

We're almost at the end of the third nine weeks—only a few days to go! On Friday, March 6th, we'll be celebrating by drawing the names of one boy and one girl who had perfect attendance. The lucky winners will receive a bike donated by Mr. Troell from State Farm Insurance. We can’t wait to see who wins!

Thank you, parents and guardians, for making attendance a priority. Because of you, every class has filled their Mr. Potato Head and had a chance to help with morning announcements. The Tator Tot Party race is wide open, the excitement is high, and our students’ confidence is growing every day — all thanks to your support in getting them here.

Absences and Transportation Changes

Kadie Tucker is no longer with GECC. She’s moved to West Texas with her husband, and we’re wishing her all the best!

If your child is going to be absent for the day, please give our front office a call at 903-841-7860 or send a ParentSquare message to Rebeca Cruz or Lani Hays, our wonderful school secretaries.

For transportation changes, you can also send a ParentSquare request to Rebeca or Lani. Just a quick reminder — the deadline for transportation changes is 1:30 pm, and the cutoff for early pick-up is no later than 2:45 pm.

Cafeteria Menus

We will continue to send home paper copies of the GECC cafeteria menus. If you would rather access them online, the menus can be found at the following link:

Spring and Individual Group Pictures
