December Newsletter

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Thank you so much to all the amazing male role models who attended our Reading with Dudes event! We truly appreciate you taking the time to visit your child's classroom. The students had such a wonderful time reading and chatting about books with you.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving surrounded by family and friends! Can you believe December is already here? Even though it's a short month, there's plenty of fun activities and events coming up, so be sure to check out the newsletter for all the details!

During the colder months, we will try to make it outside everyday even when it is cold or lightly raining. The back patio is covered and will allow students to play outside and be protected on rainy days. Please make sure that your child has appropriate outdoor clothing so they can enjoy their time outside. Also, just a reminder to continue to provide a change of clothing that can be used in the event that your child has an accident.

With Christmas Break and the New Year quickly approaching, I just wanted to wish everyone a safe and memorable holiday! The staff and I are looking forward to welcoming students back to school on Tuesday, January 6th.

Picture Retakes – Tuesday, December 2nd

Picture retakes for new students, absent students, and those who need a new picture are scheduled for Tuesday, December 2nd.

Students Taking Medication

If your child has started taking a new medication or a higher dose of a medication, please notify Nurse Mindy of these changes. This information will be helpful for Nurse Mindy to have in the event that your child visits the Nurse’s Office and is not feeling well.

Attendance

A huge shout out and thank you to parents for ensuring that your child comes to school each and every day as attendance, even at the Pre-K level, matters. We also realize that there may be a need for an occasional day off due to sickness or to attend a doctor’s appointment. If this is the case, please see the important information below.

Absences
If your child is absent for the day, be sure to call the front office at 903-841-7860 or send a ParentSquare message to Rebeca Cruz or Kadie Ard, our school secretaries. To streamline the process for our Head Start families, the front office will forward your message to the family service workers.

Excuses
If your child is absent and/or goes to a doctor’s appointment please send a parent note or a doctor’s note with them when they return to school. This will allow us to mark the absence as “excused”. Notes may be submitted up to 3 days after an absence or an early pick-up. Excuses can be placed in your child’s folder or sent in a ParentSquare message to Rebeca Cruz or Kadie Ard.

Classroom Tater Tot Challenge

Which class will win the Sonic Tater Tot challenge?

Our students are doing a fantastic job coming to school and helping add Mr. Potato Head pieces to their classroom Mr. Potato Head when everyone is in attendance. We cannot wait to find out which class will be the winner of the Sonic Tater Tot party!

If your child’s class does not win the Tater Tot party, there is another chance for them to win during the next semester.

Perfect Attendance Challenge

There are many students who have perfect attendance for the second nine-weeks of school and we are extremely excited to be drawing another two boys and two girls for bikes on Friday, December 19th. When we return in January, we will be celebrating all of our second nine-weeks perfect attendance students!

Mr. Troell, from State Farm Insurance, will be gifting us with another four bikes to give away for the third nine-weeks. We will be drawing one boy and one girl for perfect attendance and one boy and one girl based on behavior. Our January Newsletter will provide you with more details on how your child can qualify for the drawing based on behavior.

Class Parties - Friday, December 19th

Parents are invited to attend classroom Christmas parties. Please be aware that the parties will be split between two different times (Head Start and Pre-K/ECSE).

As part of our procedures, all visitors must be approved before they are allowed on campus. In order to help with this process, we highly encourage you stop by to get your ID pre-scanned. This will help you avoid a long wait time on the day of the party. We will pre-print the visitor passes and have them ready for you when you arrive at your scheduled time.

Please see the class times for your child’s party:

·        9:15am-9:45am – Mrs. Correll, Mrs. Engle, Mrs. Hernandez, Mrs. Jackson

·        10:10am-10:40am – Ms. Caffey, Mrs. Ross, Mrs. Terry, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Walker

An invitation and RSVP for the event will be sent home in your child’s folder during the first week in December.
