New law concerning personal communication devices/cell phones effective for 2025-2026

Good Afternoon Buckeye Families;

As many of you are aware, House Bill 1481 is a new law that requires school districts to prohibit student use of personal communication devices/cell phones at school during the school day.  This new law will go into effect at the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year.  While this new law does not change much at our lower grade levels, it will change procedures at Bruce Junior High and Gilmer High Schools.  Cell phone usage during class has always been prohibited, so the primary change will be that students can no longer use their phones during lunch or passing periods between classes.  These changes will put Gilmer ISD in compliance with the intent of the new state law.

Thank you for your understanding as Gilmer ISD works to follow this new state law.
